Jamaican Gets Credited For Originating Hip-Hop During 44th Anniversary

As the world celebrated the 44th anniversary of Hip-Hop earlier this week, many American rappers including Busta Rhymes paid homage to Jamaican born Clive “DJ Kool Herc” Campbell, “The father of Hip Hop.”

“Thank you for giving birth to our culture of Hip Hop,” Busta captioned a video of Campbell telling the tale of how hip-hop started posted on his Instagram page.

Back in 1973 at a back-to-school party in the Bronx, DJ Kool Herc began using records on two different turntables to combine and extend the instrumental breaks in the music he was playing. It’s this extension that led to the musical revolution that would become hip-hop.
