Cardi B’s ‘Bodak Yellow’ Tops Billboard Hot 100

Cardi B makes history. After steadily climbing the Billboard Hot 100 with “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” the Bronx rapper has earned her first No. 1 single, dethroning Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.”

But the achievement is also a larger victory, as she becomes the second female rapper ever to reign at the top without any guests. The first was Lauryn Hill, who did it with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.

With this accomplishment, Bardi is only the fifth female rapper ever to nab the top slot on the chart, following Lil’ Kim (2001’s “Lady Marmalade” featuring Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Pink), Shawnna (2003’s “Stand Up” by Ludacris), and Iggy Azalea (2014’s “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX).

Plus, the former “Love & Hip Hop” star is the first female artist overall to reach the peak of the Hot 100 with an unaccompanied debut track since Meghan Trainor’s 2014 smash, “All About That Bass.”

Much of “Bodak’s” power this week came from 46.4 million U.S. streams and 56,000 downloads sold. However, the song also benefitted from 62 million all-format audience impressions on radio.

Cardi B isn’t the only one making major moves on the charts. Post Malone’s 21 Savage-assisted single “rockstar” debuts at No. 2, while Logic’s Alessia Cara and Khalid-assisted “1-800-273-8255” rises to No. 4.

Elsewhere, French Montana and Swae Lee’s “Unforgettable” lands at No. 6, and Yo Gotti’s Nicki Minaj collaboration “Rake It Up” resides at No. 8.
