The Game’s Father Dies Unexpectedly At 65

The Game’s father, George Taylor, passed away on Wednesday morning (January 17) at his Apple Valley, California home, according to TMZ. A family member reportedly found Taylor unresponsive around 8:30 a.m. PST and a neighbor called 911. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was 65.

To say The Game had a rough upbringing would be an understatement. Born in Compton, California, he grew up surrounded by drugs and violence. After his uncle was murdered, his father self-medicated with the powerful drug PCP.

As The Game explained in the 2016 docu-series Streets of Compton, “Nearly every family in Compton has been touched by drugs, and mine is no exception. My uncle Greg was murdered down the street from my house when I was 6. My dad turned to PCP to dull the pain.”

His mother Lynette Baker added, “”[Drugs] changed everything. This big happy family that we had turned awful.”

It’s a topic he addresses on the track “Ol’ English” from 2006’s Doctor’s Advocate.

“Once upon a time in the projects yo/ I watched my uncle Greg put D’s on his six-fo’/ I washed it on Monday so he bought me a gold chain/ Shopped crack and watched “Colors” and I soaked up game/ Drove the Impala on his lap that was my role model/ Used to let me kill the corner of his 40-ounce bottle/ On the weekend him and my pops flashed the ‘Vette/ Till one weekend my uncle got stabbed to death/ He got murdered by a fiend my pops ain’t like that,” he spits.

Although the status of their relationship is unknown, The Game and his father appeared to have plenty of love for one another. In the above Instagram post from May 2017, he captioned the photo, “me & Compton OG aka my pops in New York when I was working on #DoctorsAdvocate we been through too much, good & bad for me not to love em.”

The coroner reportedly has Taylor’s body and is conducting an investigation into the cause of death. No foul play is suspected.

    RIP George Taylor.
