New Music: Sting & Shaggy – ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’

Sting and Shaggy come together on “Don’t Make Me Wait,” the lead single off their upcoming joint album, 44/876.

“Don’t Make Me Wait” is an island-flavored track about impatience in romance. “I don’t want you to think I’m rushing you,” sings Sting. “I know you like to take your time / I’m already sold on the idea of you and I / Just tell me where I need to sign.”

Mr. Boombastic follows the concept along with his own contributions to the melodic track. “You don’t want to rush and I don’t want to take my time,” he sings. “I’m putting everything on the line / They say that true love’s hard to find / I’m looking now to make you mine.”

Originally, the twosome only planned to record “Don’t Make Me Wait.” Once they linked up, however, new songs began to take shape, reflecting their mutual love for Jamaican music and culture.

“The most important thing to me in any kind of music is surprise,” Sting told Rolling Stone. “And everybody is surprised by this collaboration – by what they’re hearing. We’re surprising.”

Featuring contributions from Sly and Robbie’s Robbie Shakespeare, Aidonia, DJ Agent Sasco, and Dominic Miller, 44/876 is due April 20.
