Samsung Galaxy S9 Images leak ahead of next month’s unveiling

Samsung is planning to unveil its Galaxy S9 handset at Mobile World Congress next month. While the Galaxy S8 successor has been teased with camera improvements, the design of the Galaxy S9 is rumoured to be almost identical to the S8. VentureBeat has now published what it claims are images of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The front of both devices look nearly identical to the Galaxy S8, and suggest that the S9 will have a similar bezel less display and still feature Samsung’s controversial Bixby button.

VentureBeat claims the Galaxy S9 will include a 5.8-inch display and be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 in the US, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The larger S9+ is said to have a 6.2-inch display, and 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. Both models appear to be iterative hardware updates over the existing S8. Samsung’s camera improvements reportedly include variable aperture on the primary 12-megapixel camera, allowing it to switch between f/2.4 and f/1.5.

While VentureBeat hasn’t supplied pictures of the rear of the S9, the publication does claim the fingerprint sensor will be vertically aligned with the camera, instead of sitting beside it (like on the S8). This improvement means the fingerprint reader will be located beneath the camera, in a more natural position that should be easier to locate. This placement aligns with some videos that claim to be dummy units of the Galaxy S9.

Both Galaxy S9 models are said to include 8-megapixel selfie cameras, alongside stereo speakers at the bottom of Samsung’s 2018 handsets. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S9 and S9+ next month, and VentureBeat suggests the devices will be available in stores on March 16th.
