Disney Releases ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Trailer

Disney has finally teased the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is set to hit theaters on May 25, 2018 (a.k.a. Memorial Day weekend). The latest standalone Star Wars cut features Alden Ehrenreich taking up the mantle as Yung Han Solo, while Donald Glover dons the cape of Lando Calrissian. They are part of a stacked cast that also boasts Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Thandie Newton, among others.

“I’ve been running scams on the streets since I was 10,” Ehrenreich’s Solo tells us in the under-two-minutes glimpse, which premiered during Good Morning America on Monday. “I was kicked out of the flight academy for having a mind of my own. I’m gonna be a pilot, the best in the galaxy.”

The long-awaited first trailer can be seen in full below.

Solo marks the second anthology entry in the Star Wars franchise, following 2016’s masterfully executed Rogue One. These films are meant to flesh out stories from the Star Wars universe in standalone features. For Solo, controversy has been a consistent presence in the promo, especially after Disney ditched directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for Ron Howard.

“I think we’ve all never been faced with anything like that and I think [Howard] did a good job of coming and tell us he didn’t want to change what we were doing at all,” Glover said during an Atlanta event for the Television Critics Association last month. “He wanted us to remain confident in our vision. He just wanted to sculpt it in a way.”
