Eminem is known to be a private person, but a new video shows the reclusive rapper like you’ve never seen him before.
The phone-filmed clip, which leaked online Friday (Feb. 9), features a mystery woman who records him without his knowledge as he walks into a hotel room. At first, he thinks they’re taking a selfie, but eventually discovers that she’s recording.
“Why?” he asks. “Why not?” she replies. “We have to document our lives, right?” “I guess,” he says, before confirming. “Wait, is that recording?” Once he realizes that she’s definitely filming their encounter, the image goes black.
Once the video surfaced, fans began to speculate about its origin. Many believed this was leaked on purpose as a promotional clip for Slim Shady’s upcoming “River” video. The Ed Sheeran-assisted track, for which a video has been shot, is a single off Revival, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Keen fans also identified the woman in the video as Sarah Ashley Toups, an actress who appeared in Lethal Weapon.
Em is known for elaborate promotional campaigns. After all, Revival was promoted through mysterious drug ads.
Just last month, he shared a photo of Ed Sheeran on set of the “River” video. So far, the clip does not have a release date.
