Trey Songz turned himself in Monday morning to face a felony domestic assault charge.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Page Six that 33-year-old Songz was arrested over the NBA All-Star weekend incident where he allegedly beat up a woman named Andrea Buera.
Songz was subsequently released and made his first statement about his recent legal issues on Twitter.
“For weeks my lawyers & Mgmt have asked me not to comment on this and I initially agreed but this morning I feel that my fam, the women that raised me, my friends & fans especially the youth need to hear from me,” he wrote. “I am being lied on and falsely accused for someone’s personal gain.
Neither Songz’s attorney nor Buera’s attorney immediately returned Page Six’s request for comment.
Songz’s arrest comes almost a week after Buera spoke out about the alleged assault. She had previously been granted a restraining order against him.
