Tommy Lee Sparta, Jesse Royal Speaks On State Of Emergency In St James

Controversial Dancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta and Reggae crooner Jesse Royal have both offered their verbal support to the ongoing state of emergency (SOE) in their home parish, St James.

According to Jesse Royal, he believes the security measure was necessary as things were getting out of hand. He, however, cautioned against its excessive use by the security forces.

The singer, who originates from Maroon Town in the parish, says although he backs the security measure he believes that at no point should anyone’s rights be abused during the process.

Tommy Lee Sparta shared much of the same sentiments claiming that the SOE is actually the best thing for Montego Bay at the moment, as it’s implementation has significantly curbed crime and violence within the parish.

According to the “Savage Life” deejay, although most business places have been forced to close their doors early the security measure has also significantly reduced crime in the same timeframe.

The government recently announced a further extension of the SOE in St James last week, which was met with firm opposition from the Peoples National Party, who say they will no longer support the measure.
