Serena Williams Named GQ’s ‘Woman of the Year’

GQ names Serena Williams their woman of the year.

For GQ’s December 2018/January 2019 issue, the Condé Nast-owned magazine anointed three men — and one woman — the title of “Man of the Year.” Jonah Hill, Michael B. Jordan and Henry Golding were all awarded the title alongside Williams.

The tennis star, 37, owns one of the four covers as the “Champion of the Year,” wearing a black leotard and a vintage Chanel belt. Virgil Abloh, Louis Vuitton’s creative director and the designer of Williams’ buzzed-about US Open outfits, added his signature quotation marks around the word “woman,” which is written in his handwriting.

Though all four covers were released on Monday, fans will have to wait until Thursday to read Williams’ interview. In a teaser, the magazine promised that Williams will discuss “the US Open moment heard around the world, along with her plans for the future, her thoughts on Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court appointment and what it’s like to be a black woman in America in 2018.”

This isn’t the first time that a woman has landed a “Man of the Year” cover: In 2017, the MOTY award was given to Gal Gadot for her role in “Wonder Woman,” as well as Stephen Colbert, Colin Kaepernick and Kevin Durant.
